Cannot find engine configuration file

Log Checker was installed by an IT support person with admin privileges on a computer running XP.

The user then tried to run Log Checker 4 and received the 'Cannot find engine configuration file' message

 

The error indicates that your PC has been locked down by IT policies which is preventing the Borland Database Engine from running / installing correctly. Check security on registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Borland and directory / files program files\Borland\Common Files\BDE\IDAPI32.CFG. Information for IT Support

bullet IT support login as administrator account and try to run the program
  1. Login using your admin account
  2. Start -> All Programs -> Log Checker -> Log Checker 4

If the program works, review UAC, Program and Registry Information and adjust your policy / restrictions for the users.

If it doesn't work

Uninstall and reinstall

Installing it again does not always work due to the idiosyncratic nature of windows.

However it is worth a shot as it may save some time.

1.1.      Reboot your computer fully

1.2.      Login as an administrator

1.3.      Uninstall log checker by using add/remove programs in the control Panel

1.4.      Reboot your computer

1.5.      Login as an administrator

1.6.      Insert the Log Checker CD and follow the prompts

1.7.      Reboot your computer when prompted.

1.8.      Run the Log Checker program

1.9.      If it doesn't display anything go to Step 2

  

            2.         Remove Log Checker manually and reinstall

We will manually clean up the directories and registry so that a clean install can be done.

2.1.      Reboot your computer fully

2.2.      Login as an administrator

2.3.      Uninstall log checker by using add/remove programs in the control Panel

2.4.      Now open the registry editor by

                        2.4.1.  Pressing Start-> Run, type regedit and click ok

            Note: on windows NT you may have to type regedt32 instead.

2.5.      Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE

2.6.      Delete the following keys

XLC4

bullet

LC4

bullet

Borland

2.7.      Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE

2.8.      Delete the LogChecker folder / key

2.10.   Close the registry editor

2.11.   Now open windows explorer so that we can remove the files

Note: if you installed Log Checker to a non default location use  that directory instead.

                        2.11.1.  Expand the C: drive

                        2.11.2. Delete the LogCheckerData directory

2.11.3. Expand the Program Files folder

2.11.4  Delete the LogChecker directory

2.12.       Reboot your computer

2.13.       Login as an administrator

2.14.       Now try the installation again

If that does not work

try opening the borland database administrator start->LogChecker 4 -> BDE Configuration Tool

check that the alias LC exists and points to c:\LogCheckerData
bullet
check that Paradox driver net directory is C:\LogCheckerData
bullet
choose file-save
bullet
choose file-exit
bullet
reboot and check

If that does not work
bullet
run the bde install program (bde511en.exe) from the support directory of the CD
bullet
retry the program
